DALY CONDEMNS O’BRIEN’S FRONTMAN AT INM & SITESERV FOR “USING DESPERATE PLIGHT OF HAITIANS TO BENEFIT OWN WATER INTERESTS”
Responding to the advertisements for Haven which have emerged over the last week, claiming, “the people of Haiti would love to pay water charges”, ULA TD Clare Daly has slammed the campaign as a “cynical exercise in softening Irish attitudes to water charges by those with a vested interest”
Following on from Saturday’s successful demonstration in Dublin city centre concerned with highlighting the plight of Marian Price, Clare was happy to participate in the beginnings of an all-party group this morning, in relation to looking at the issue of prisoners’ rights concerning some very worrying cases in Northern Ireland at the moment, but with particular reference to Marian.
One of the first initiatives of the group will be to organise a visit up to the prison to see Marian and Clare is hoping to be part of that delegation. It’s quite clear from the evidence that Marian’s deteriorating ill health adds an urgency to the need to step up this campaign and both the Irish and British Government should take note as indeed should the Secretary of state for Northern Ireland and Northern Ireland deputy’s.
United Left Alliance announces major effort to plan protests and public resistance to property tax and unjust austerity
At a press conference today TDs for the United Left Alliance announced plans to launch a public campaign of resistance to property tax and austerity. The ULA will be supporting with the Campaign Against Household and Water Taxes (CAHWT) in organising public meetings across the country focused on mobilising resistance and protests against the property charge and austerity prior to December’s budget.
