Speaking at a press conference today, (27/11/2014) the Justice 4 All Committee stated, “We have dealt with many, many people across the State who have suffered horribly as a result of Garda malpractice. These citizens have been contacting us in droves since the announcement of Nóirín O’Sullivan as the new Garda Commissioner. They feel betrayed, and that all the Government’s talk about reform was just a cover to allow them to carry on as they were.
Independent TDs Mick Wallace and Clare Daly have also expressed their disappointment at the Government’s decision to keep policing very much in the hands of politicians, by the manner of the recent appointments of Nóirín O’Sullivan as the new Garda Commissioner and Josephine Feehily as the Chairperson Designate of the New Policing Authority Board. Both appointees will be answerable to the political class of the day, rather than the citizens they are meant to serve.
