To ask the Minister for Business; Enterprise and Innovation further to Parliamentary Question No. 211 of 24 October 2018, the number of licences that comprised the €120 million of temporary exports of military hardware for maintenance to another EU member state in January to June 2017.
Under the Control of Exports Act 2008, licences are required for the movement out of Ireland of military equipment listed in the Common Military List of the EU. My Department is responsible for implementing these controls and for processing applications for licences.
To ask the Minister for Business; Enterprise and Innovation if her attention has been drawn to the 47% increase in the value of military exports between 2015 and 2016; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
In 2015, 81 licences with a value of €43m were issued to export goods with a military classification. In 2016, 128 licences with a value of €63m were issued to export goods with a military classification. The increase in the value of exports of goods with a military classification between 2015 and 2016 is due mainly to increases in exports to Germany, USA and Singapore.
