SIPTU have joined their fellow workers, in UNITE and the CPSU today, in rejecting the terms of Croke Park II. SIPTU members, despite a recommendation to vote yes from their leadership, have rejected the agreement by 53.7% to 46.3%.Ten unions have so far rejected the deal, leaving it effectively defeated.

As the academic year comes to a close and exam season is upon us many students will be wondering if they can afford to return next September? With assignments such as reports, essays and examination preparation looming over student’s minds as end of year deadlines are coming ever nearer. Irish student’s minds are in a limbo cycle combatting academic pressures with part time jobs in order to sustain themselves. Recent statistics from college newspapers highlight how an increasing number of students are forced to find employment resulting in them missing lectures, labs and tutorials. This places many students at crossroads, should I work to pay my fees or try to pass my exams.

Corporate lobbying to prevent a ban on Bee pesticides is intensifying. This issue is a concern to us all. I will be pushing Minister Coveney on this critical issue when the Dail reconvenes.
Biotech and pesticides giants Syngenta and Bayer are waging an all-out lobbying war against an upcoming vote on a limited ban on three of their pesticides1. The European Commission (EC) proposed this ban following very critical conclusions by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) based on new scientific evidence. Corporate Europe Observatory (CEO) had access to private letters and emails sent by these two companies and allied lobby groups to the EC as well as EFSA, which displayed their strong-arm tactics to
try to avoid the ban.
